Our School Motto

Cultivating Life by Developing Individuality

Our university motto is“ Cultivating life by developing individuality.”
We instruct our students to complete their whole lives more prosperously, advanced, and creatively.
Human beings, by nature, have their very own strengths, virtues and good qualities. In other words, we all have our own personalities. No two human beings have been identically alike since mankind first appeared on the surface of the earth some 4 million years ago. We, as the unique being, can say that man’s fate is to perform our individual lives.
How do we establish ourselves? How do we grow towards selfrealization?
There is a raison d'etre for education, I believe, and through education, we shine brightly eternally. Realizing our own personality, namely, the area of expertise, we establish our identities and train ourselves to the completion as a human being throughout our lives. This is ”Cultivating life by developing individuality.”
On the other hand, remarkable advances in science and technology in recent years have brought remarkable progress to the pharmaceutical sectors with great strides. Owing to the innovative technology and rapid advances in the medical field, more and more medicine for treatment and prevention are being invented. In recent years, however, we have seen some differences in the effectiveness and side effects on patients who are suffering from the same disease. This shows how important it is to promote "medical treatment for the individual patient," which is appropriate for his physical condition, and indicates how necessary it is to adapt to the idea of "individual medical care" Furthermore, as health care experts who take care of people, medical workers should understand suffering of others and have "hearts of compassion."
In addition, in the city of Yokohama, where our university is located, “Yokohama Pharmacy”, “Yokohama Pharmaceutical Laboratory”, “Yokohama School of Medicine” and many other institutions have been established since the Meiji Restoration. Taking the place of Nagasaki , Yokohama became active in the imports and introduction of Western medicine and playing a significant role in the development of modern medicine in Japan.
Here at our university, in addition to having a wide range of expertise, we want to graduate talented and capable people who have a deep sense of humanity, ethics and global awareness into the world.
