This department studies drug development, development,production,healthfoodproducts, cosmetics,theeducationandresearchofrelatedareas intheenvironmentandpublichealthsectorswiththe aimtoengageinhumanresourcedevelopment.Asin thewaysofotherdepartments,thisisacurriculumto learnnaturalscienceandlearnthecharacteristicsofthe pharmacycourses.

The Aim for Our Establishment

In the current six-year department of pharmacy, the center or focus is training pharmacists to be health care professionals who make contributions in clinical medicine, but the expectations from society for the primary department of medicine to turn out varied professionals is at a low point. At our university, we established to the 4-year graduate school to provide knowledge in pharmaceutics and to nurture students to play active roles in the medical field. We not only want to meet the needs of society, but also the needs of our students.

Medicinal Chemistry

In addition to basic organic synthesis technology, we utilize cutting-edge technologies to develop new drugs, such as combinatorial synthesis, lab auto mation technology (robotic synthesis technology), flow synthesis and computers, and conduct drug discovery research for cancer,Alzheimer’s disease and other illnesses.

 

Biology and Pharmacokinetics

We will acquire the skills to stabilize the metabolic regulation by establishing the screening system for drug development and controlling the blending with the target protein for the optimization of developmental candidate drugs. In addition, we will acquire the basic theories and techniques to collect data from clinical trials to check the implementation safety and trial data from human trials to conduct a simulation of the effi cacy of a drug. Through this process we will learn the essential clinical implementations and the necessary systems and ethics.

 

Food and Natural Remedies (Kampo)

This department not only teachesmedicine, but also uses professionalparamedical training as a base. Interms of research, we grasp the actualconditions by doing joint research with not only with pharmaceutical companies, but kampo formulation,food, cosmetics, medical devicecompanies or through internships, fromthe test tube to clinical trials, and will acquire the research and developmental skills which diff ers fromnew drugs.

Playing an active role in biochemical companies as an engineer (meister)

One-third of Japanese companies are pharmaceutical,chemical, cosmetics, food, etc. and these all fall into thechemical company category. These companies originallyrequired personnel who had the knowledge and skills ofchemistry, and in the production and processing plants oftoday, the demand for engineers (meister) with certainchemical and pharmaceutical knowledge is rising. Inaddition to the basic knowledge, we have a curriculumwhich focuses on chemical experiments and practical skillsand through those, we develop students who havepharmacy knowledge and skills in cutting-edge technology.

Playing an active role in life science companies or an a graduate student

In order to produce results in medical science, the basicmedical training is required, and with pharmacy, physicalscience, engineering, basic medical sciences and agriculture,it is necessary to promote the integration of these fi elds. Theresearchers in basic medical science, there is a trend ofwanting students with a strong command of the basicknowledge and skills of chemistry and biology to attendpharmacy schools. Based on these circumstances, through“research-based education,” our university will provide drugdevelopment knowledge and skills, and see one of our goalsas being turning out great numbers of extremely talentedgraduate students in the fi elds of pharmacy, physical science,engineering, basic medical sciences and agriculture.
